Why a Wedding Video is Worth It
It's not uncommon for a bride to tell us, "I didn't think i wanted a wedding film until I came across your work." While everyone has their style preferences, the idea of a wedding video has left the impression on couple's of an intrusive figure forcing them to pose for shots that don't come natural for them. Other's feel a disconnect with what they have seen in the past. The wedding day might have been a harmonious palette of color with easy going guest, only to be portrayed later as oddly polished and even sterile feeling.
We aren't to create commercials of an idealized life when we film weddings. We are creating something tangible--seeable-- of someone's history. A wedding video is a token of what once was and a genealogy for what will be.
Photography is a priceless gift with the same to be said for video. Not only can we see the frozen smile, but now press play, and see how your mother's eye crinkle in real time.
"My Grandma said she didn't have video and she was fine"
What a gift to be able to give the ones who come after you a token of your memory. For years, when visiting my grandparents home, I saw a wedding portrait of my parent's hanging in the hallway corridor. I had only known those younger smiling faces in that one pose. You could gather a little bit of personality, but not more than what the photo let on. It was a decade later that they mentioned an old wedding film. You can imagine I was dying to see what they meant.
It was then I saw the expressions change. There they were on the church steps for their portrait, except this time, the frozen smiles moved and became talking, kissing, whispering, and laughing faces. We were truly back in time.
